Scheneggenburger's photos are very dark and mysterious, almost symbolic of a nightmare rather than a peaceful sleep. I wanted to do the opposite and create dream like scenes, by the use of the white background and a slow shutter speed which when movement interfered created a hazy, frosty and cloudy image to symbolise the idea of someone in deep sleep. I also wanted them to look as if the subject is dreaming.
Dreams can often be photographed and filmed as being very white and clinical, which could mirror the idea of being in clouds as you dream. This is where the bright background came from with the contrasting colours from the hair and features.
Furthermore, the movement helps to give the imagery of a dream in that when you dream you can often see hundreds of versions of yourself, overlapping each other and merging various dreams into one dream that you remember when you wake up. This is why I chose to incorporate movement into these images, not only to develop on my responses but to link it to my project and create images that resemble a dream like state.
